Unesco Palace, Beirut
CONTINUUM is an exhibition conceived as a tribute to the life and work of Mai Ghoussoub (1952-2007), writer, sculptor, performance artist, activist and co-founder of Saqi Books, who passed away on the 17th of February 2007 in London. The exhibition gathers her complete sculptural work, shown for the first time in Lebanon, presented together with a selection of her writings.
During the exhibition's opening and closing receptions, Ara Azad will create in-situ drawings: portraits, landscapes or body-scapes, infinitely absorbing and then reflecting the human condition. Ara Azad's drawing process is a visual as well as an aural experience.
Souheil Sleiman will present three new kinetic sculptures created with construction machinery, wood and motorized turntables taken from different building sites in Beirut. He refers to his kinetic sculptures as "futility objects", a ramshackle, oddly assembled crew of automatons carrying out repetitive movements. Steadfast yet melancholic, the objects rotate to the rhythms of an unfathomable logic.
Under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, Mr. Tammam Salam
